The Challenge
Through a contract with another translation company, we obtained a web localization project to develop a Chinese (both Mandarin and Cantonese) and a Korean website for a top brand sports ware company. We faced many challenges and obstacles in delivering translated sites complete with Flash, multimedia applications, audio recordings, and numerous articles.
- Much of the content was either too colloquial or culturally irrelevant, making it difficult to be properly conveyed to the target audiences.
- The source file formats were so varied, ranging from java to asp to flash, that each file format required different processes and quality control techniques.
- The site architecture had to be maintained constantly as changes were made.
- The highest quality was expected despite the lack of direct correspondence with the end client, as the website would be visited by over a billion people..
- As the source website was continually changing, our efforts had to match in consistency.
